I find a lot of McKenzie's points interesting.
For this project the issue of special effects and glitz resonated with my site. I wanted the glitz to peak the student's interests, but I believe the toned down version is more direct in its teaching. Students are not distracted by the pictures and they have a more conscious connection with the navigation. I do not want their minds in entertainment mode. I want their light bulbs turning on and flashing with exciting neurons.
I used most of the points he included in his rubric when I was working out the issues of my project. I needed to make sure the navigation was direct and simple. I decided to assume students did not know much about the computer or websites so my designed navigation is always seen by the user. There is one overall layout for the definition section as well as the splash page and sentence practice page. This design was arrived at due to the planning I reworked three and four times.
This project is more about the ideas than flash issue McKenzie brings up in the article. I removed all the flash I could stand to remove. I believe the product left from the excavation is solid and will help students learn basic web navigation.
